OMG, THANK YOU. Every time I hear a politician talk about his or her experience in business and how theyre going to bring that attitude/mentality/philosophy to governance, I want to smack him or her in the belly with a wet fish. Corporations are for-profit. Governments are nonprofit. THE ENTIRE IDEA OF GOVERNMENT IS TO DO COLLECTIVELY WHAT WE CANNOT DO INDIVIDUALLY. The idea is NOT cost-cutting; the idea is to find out what needs to be done, then we all band together – through our taxes – to DO IT. It is angering, humiliating, and frustrating to hear representatives of the government with the largest military force in the world saying school kids and single mothers have to suck it up and cut more because, hey, we just cant afford it. We can afford all of it and more. They just dont want to pay it, because their friends might not be making a profit off it, or the wrong people might get some benefit from it, or the rich might have to actually pay a little more for the societal infrastructure they use every single minute of every day. Society is not a business. Government is not a business. And the people whove been trying to make it so for all these years have screwed things up so badly then Im terrified we may not be able to fix it without a reboot. You know, the kind we tried from 1861 to 1865.
