This won’t come as any surprise to a lot of us who’ve lived through or had to deal with natural disasters, but the AP polled families in New York and New Jersey who were devastated by Superstorm Sandy to ask who provided the most help in their hour of need. No, it wasn’t the government. It was their friends, families and local communities. They replied overwhelmingly that it was their neighbors who offered to share food, water, generators and other supplies. Far fewer said they got help from the federal or state governments. One woman who was stranded with two small children in a highrise apartment with no elevator said she didn’t know how they would survive – until family and friends lugged food and bottled water all the way up 20 flights of stairs. She told the pollsters, People who can bring you food and water, and walk up 20 floors? Thats family, not FEMA. For more of the Huckabee Report visit MikeHuckabee.
