This work is a very personal story inspired by Lake Okeechobee, Florida. I spent a great deal of time learning about the pollution issues of Lake Okeechobee, a lake that is routinely discharged into the Atlantic on one side and the Gulf of Mexico on the other via man-made canals. In 2013, hundreds of manatees died, over 300 pelicans died among other marine life. The pain from this event and the lack of political action were heartbreaking. The up-side: friends gathered to raise awareness, make a fuss, and try to make a point to save our environment, ecosystem, economy, and the health of every living organism (including us). We are all part of this delicate ecosystem. With my new knowledge comes great responsibility, and I hope to inspire everyone in some small way. Our ocean needs a voice, and I hope you can hear that voice through this small piece of work: from a sincere longing for help through a triumphant future.
