Kenneth Minimah, to urgently dispatch soldiers to Benue State to curb the increased attack on villages across the state by the nomadic herdsmen. Hon. Benjamin Aboho, who moved a motion of urgent national importance, informed the House that the violence occasioned by the herdsmen had spread to the neighbouring states of Nasarawa and Plateau, thereby constituting a threat to national security. According to him, since April last year, some villages in the Moon council ward of Kwande Local Government Area of Benue State had been under siege by herdsmen who killed many people and destroyed properties worth millions of naira. “Mr. Speaker, I am worried like any other Nigerian that the continuous occupation of the land will make citizens to attempt to fight back, which may worsen the security situation in the country,” Aboho said. He added: “The armed herdsmen easily invade Moon ward because the only police post located at Anyiase is manned by four unarmed men, despite the fact that Moon has international border with Cameroun, there has been no efforts to cover the area with security agencies” Abohos motion was unanimously taken as the House mandated the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to establish a refugee camp and provide relief materials to the victims in the affected areas.
