Thomas Breen, a 71-year-old Navy veteran, visited the Phoenix Veterans Administration emergency room last September when he discovered blood in his urine. It appears his name may have ended up on a now-notorious paper waiting list. CNN and the International Business Times report that this secret list contained the names of as many as 1,600 sick veterans--all forced to wait months for an appointment. But Breen never made it to an appointment. By mid-November, almost two months later, his condition had worsened and he was taken to a non-VA hospital where he soon died. Just days later the Phoenix VA called: they were ready to schedule his appointment. “I told them ‘You’re a little late, said his daughter-in-law.
