Thomas, just informed that many of his classmates laugh at him when he says horsback riding is a sport. Here is what I have to say to that. First, hoseback riding is one of the oldest sports and fulfils the definitions of sport that I found defined online. It has competition, athleticism (it builds muscle strength, how else will someone be able to conrol a 1200 lb animal?, it entails mental exercise the rider must use skill, strategy, reasoning, memory and confidence. The rider must remember tests, jump courses, trail maps etc., it involved aerobics and colorie buring, ride a horse at a walk would burn 171 colories per hours, which is alsmost identical to walking on foot 2 miles per hour. 441 calories are burned in an hour of trotting, and 549 calories are burned in an hour of galloping. Compare this with an hour of golf, carrying your clugs at 414 calories or running at 7mph at 783 calories. It also involves rules and regulations like any other sport. In any other sport are you responsible for controlling yourself and a 1200 lbs animal. I read an artilce where the author was typing with one hand because he had broken he wrist when he fell off his horse. He also wrote that many sports you fall and get up, when you fall while training in horseback riding 95% of time you are guaranteed prettey bad brusing, a lot of times broken bones but you still get back up on and keep going. The author wrote that only time he didnt see people get back up is when there were nocked out, had their ;evises crushed, back injuries, broken leges or were severely concussed. So next time someone wants to say horseback riding isnt a sport go try it yourself and let someone tell you its not a real sport or real work. If you dont think this is a true sport take one riding lesson with a coach and still say it is not a sport. There is a lot of information out there that tells how much horseback riding
