Those cheeky goofball comic book writers, seizing every chance they can to joke about words being in the process of turning inappropriate while the word is still considered clean language. For instance, Robin/Nightwings girlfriends talking about wanting/loving Dick (Grayson), an entire Batman story written just to make jokes about boners (at a time when it still somewhat meant embarrassing blunder that brings ridicule), and that scene where Iron Man offers Captain America some solid dick (honest talk) from an iron man (complete with the words solid dick in bold as if to draw attention to the term they used. You know, because at the time, a fair amount of people wouldnt think much of how the language was actually intended to sound. Which is precisely the joke. The writers likely knew that at some point in time, people would look back at the Joker talking about showing the world how many boners he could make, and laugh their asses off at the story because of what boner was already starting to mean at the time of writing. But that didnt matter at all, because boner was not a culturally inappropriate word YET.
