Those of you who know me know that I am not against the idea of water charges as I do believe that we should all pay somewhat toward the day to day enhancement of all our lives. After having said this I cant understand why it is being allowed that our PPS numbers are being collected and can be passed on to other government departments and indeed other entities outside of the European Economic Area (EEA). I cant understand why water is being privatised and why Dennis OBrien was allowed to establish a company to install all the water meters when there were clearly better options on offer. I cant understand why with the new Local Government Act that the councils (who in my mind are in the best position to know how and where monies should be spent on pipes and water quality etc) are being ignored and instead money is being administered from a central location through a quango and creating jobs where there is no need i.e. directors, admin staff etc. I cant understand why there is a Household Charge or Local Property Tax and still you are expected for waste disposal and now water. With all other utilities we have a choice to change service providers but this will not be the case with Irish Water or will it? Will Irish Water be privatised and water sold as a commodity for profit? And now the ERSI are calling for monies collected should be used for social housing? Does this not go to prove that we are going to be over charged in order to pay for other projects and investment will not be made into water? Just look at the motor tax! There is a housing crisis in Dublin but yet the IDA is pumping millions into attracting jobs there while we here in Waterford have ghost estates, plenty of empty industrial units, green field sites ready for investment and an educated work force that are crying out for jobs! Even though we hear Enda always saying that we are a social state with the ongoing problems that government policies are causing we are living in a capitalist and conservative state. I keep searching for answers but none can be found!
