Those of you who know my Uncle Cliff also know that he fairly defines joie de vivre: Whether hes spending the day at the races or at the beach or on the slopes or on the ocean (or grilling up lamb chops or drinking good craft beer or dancing with his brother-in-law), Cliff feels the passion of life to its top. More than this, Cliff is happiest when he can share his good time with others. If youve spent even just a little time with him, you know that youd be hard-pressed to find a husband-father-uncle-son-brother-friend who is as generous and helpful and giving and kind. On Friday Uncle Cliff was doing one of those things he loves to do, kicking off a weekend vacation at Doheny Beach, bodyboarding out in the surf, when he suffered a massive stroke. Paralyzed, Cliff would have drowned but for my amazing Aunt Linda, who pulled him out of the water all by herself when she noticed something was wrong. Uncle Cliff is stable and resting, but has a long road ahead: Currently doctors and nurses are working to restore his respiratory function, and then will have a better sense of the kind of rehabilitation hell have to undergo. For now, for all my friends, your good thoughts and support for Cliff and my Aunt Linda and their family and friends are appreciated. For my praying friends, please add my uncle -- one of the best uncles I know -- and raise Cliff up.
