Those of you with children or grandchildren aged 5 - 7 years, think about this delightful little book for them at Christmas this year. Ive read it, and here is the review I wrote for Amazon: This well-written and beautifully illustrated short book tells the heartwarming story of Gabe, a bomb-sniffing labrador retriever who originally came from a Houston dog pound, and his soldier partner, Chuck. During their 13 months in Iraq, Gabe and Chuck found more explosives than any other dog team and saved hundreds of lives. In Iraq, Gabe also brought comfort to wounded soldiers in Army hospitals, and later, after coming home, retiring from the Army, and being adopted by Chuck, he spent time inspiring kids in schools. Finally, in recognition of his many accomplishments, Gabe was voted the American Humane Association Hero Dog of the Year. Young readers will love this book, and at the same time, they will learn how dogs help soldiers, people in hospitals, and children in schools.
