Those who know me know my immense pride at being a Marine. I along - TopicsExpress

Those who know me know my immense pride at being a Marine. I along with my Brothers and Sisters of The Corps share a storied history shaped over the past 238 years. We as Marines share in the legacy that has sustained us aboard ships fighting the British in two wars while fighting WITH them in others. It has helped us while sadly fighting our Brothers during the Civil War. It has galvanized us while fighting in places like Guadalcanal, Tarawa, the Frozen Chosun, Da Nang and Hue and Iraq and Afghanistan. Quite literally, we have fought in every climb and place as the Marines Hymn says, and I along with my fellow Marines are proud to serve or have served, even when we dont agree with the politics. I have literally met Presidents and Kings, yet the greatest meeting of my life was the minute and a half spent with the late President Ronald Reagan as he genuinely praised us as Marine Recruits on Parris Island, telling us how proud HE was of us, our legacy and our decision to serve. Later that day, he said the words that still make me swell with pride: Some people wonder if theyve made a difference; Marines dont have that problem. As Ive done the past several years as a resident of the Birthplace of the Marine Corps - Philadelphia, PA, Ill be at the historical marker for Tun Tavern on Front Street across from the Sheraton in Old City, Philadelphia, on 10 November 2014, sometime around 1900 (7:00PM). Anyone who shows up, Ill share a dram or two with you to wish The Corps and all Marines a Happy Birthday. Cigars and more whiskey will be available at Harrys Smoke Shop later they evening. To my fellow Marines, see ya there if you can make it, and Semper Fidelis!
