Though the click-bait title is dumb, I like this video and its message. Its wrong that as a teacher, I have to honestly and frankly consider what I would do if a gunman was in my school. Id have to think about how I would protect my kids, and whether I would be brave enough to lay down my life for them. Its sad that this is the world we live in, and though I know I have many friends and family members who do not believe in gun control and argue it only punishes law abiding citizens, I disagree. I argue that everyone is a law abiding citizen - until they arent. I argue that the less access to guns we have, the less shootings there will be. You can yell about Detroit and Chicago, and you can call me anti-American, but youre not changing the fact that every day people die from senseless and accidental gun violence that could have easily been prevented. We need to take action in a real, meaningful, effective way. Or I may end up on a list of names. Or a student of mine may end up on a list of names. Or a co-worker. A friend. A mentor. And thats just more than I can bare.
