Thought for the Day: Some, who are at least as old as I am can remember Frank Sinatra singing, “Love and marriage, love and marriage, go together like a horse and carriage. This I tell ya brother, you can’t have one without the other.” The song came out in 1955, when I was a wee lad, and I remember it playing on Arthur Godfrey Time, a radio show that my mother listened to every morning. Sinatra’s song was right. Love and marriage do go together just as a horse and carriage go together. We might add to that salt and pepper. They go together as well. When do you not see them matched side by side on a table? Of course, when you think about peanut butter, what else do you think about? Sure! Along with peanut butter, there is jelly. In The Sound of Music, Maria Von Trapp sang the Do-Re-Mi song where Te became, “Tea, a drink with jam and bread.” Thus, jam and bread became linked together like a horse and carriage and peanut butter and jelly. There are just some things that go together and always should. Faith and works are like that! Anyone can say that they have faith; but, the works that follow in one’s life show that the faith is real. Faith and works, faith and works, go together like love and marriage, salt and pepper, peanut butter and jelly and bread and jam. Without the works, faith is not real faith. It might as well be dead. So, as you go out there today, show your faith to be a real and living faith by the works that follow.
