Thought for the Day! THE FEASTS March 18th, 2014 I hope and pray you all enjoyed the truth about Patrick yesterday. THE FEAST OF THE DAY OF ATONEMENT Leviticus 23:26 And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,27 Also on the tenth day of this seventh month there shall be a day of atonement: it shall be an holy convocation unto you; and ye shall afflict your souls, and offer an offering made by fire unto the LORD. We are still in the same month as the Feast of Trumpets except the Feast of Trumpets took place on the first day of the month and we have another feast here on the tenth day of the month. Before we go any further we need to get something straight. We see the phrase ye shall afflict your souls, This does not mean torturing yourself as people around the world do. An example of this are those Filipino Catholics who cut themselves, poke needles through their body and nail themselves on crosses at Easter time. I just want you to know that a person that cuts himself or herself, such is a sign of devil (demon) possession. So what is meant by this phrase? It means to fast. Those of you who have fasted correctly can attest to the fact that fasting is to afflict your soul. It is our soul that does the tasting. Our five senses lead to the soul. This day of atonement was not a day of feasting but rather a day of fasting. Leviticus 23:28 And ye shall do no work in that same day: for it is a day of atonement, to make an atonement for you before the LORD your God.29 For whatsoever soul it be that shall not be afflicted in that same day, he shall be cut off from among his people. He is saying here that if that person did not have the atonement applied to him then he is going to die. Atonement means to have ones sins forgiven. You have been covered in the Blood. Now, the High Priest every year, once a year, on the tenth day of the seventh month would make sacrifices on the alter in front of the temple, or in the tabernacle before the temple. He would catch the blood of those sacrificial animals in a basin. Next he would go into the holy place where you find the candlestick and the table of showbread as well as the incense altar. While in the holy place he would change clothes. After changing clothes he would enter the Holy of Holies where the Mercy Seat was into the presence of God. Taking the basin of blood and a bunch of hyssop he would then sprinkle the blood on the Mercy Seat seven times. If God accepted the sacrifice the High Priest would turn around and leave and all the people would shout praising God. Now, it wasnt always that easy. If God did not accept the sacrifice, the High Priest died in the presence of the Lord because he had the sin of Israel on him. Jewish historians have told us that they would tie a rope around the High Priests waist when he went in just in case he died they could drag him out. No one else could go in the Holy of Holies except the High Priest. If they tried they would die instantly in Gods presence. This brings such joy to my soul, knowing that when Jesus died the veil was rent in two from the top to the bottom. Now, the Mercy Seat is exposed to the child of God. We can go right in and bow on our knees right before the Throne of God. We can talk to our blessed Heavenly Father, Who is sitting on the Mercy Seat looking at the Blood of the Lord Jesus. Our great High Priest the Lord Jesus has already applied His Blood. Hebrews 4:14 Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession. 15 For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin. 16 Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need. The Feast of the Day of Atonement pictured Jesus entering the Holy of Holies and sprinkling the Blood on the Mercy Seat. As we just read in Hebrews Jesus is our great High Priest. This feast was the Nation of Israels annual cleansing. It also pictures when Israel will be regathered in the tribulation period. In Revelation 12 they spend three and a half years in the wilderness hiding from the antichrist. The Day of Atonement pictures that day when the Messiah, Revelation 10, will stand in the wilderness, where they will see Him and they will look upon Him as the One they pierced, and they will receive Him as their Messiah. TOMORROW THE FEAST OF THE DAY OF ATONEMENT continued... TO GOD BE THE GLORY! In His Service, Jacob M.Stortenbecker II Timothy 2:3-4 Thou therefore endure hardness, as a good soldier of Jesus Christ. No man that warreth entangleth himself with the affairs of this life; that he may please him who hath chosen him to be a soldier. John 17:23 I in them, and thou in me, that they may be made perfect in one; and that the world may know that thou hast sent me, and hast loved them, as thou hast loved me. Psalm 118:6 The LORD is on my side; I will not fear: what can man do unto me? Isaiah 49:16 Behold, I have graven thee upon the palms of my hands; thy walls are continually before me.
