#ThoughtOfTheDay In the debate on our climate future, the neoliberals and associated will trivialize the debate by centering it on individualistic terms, as if our individualistic choices (most of which are structurally made for us -- with regard to CO2 emissions) are the defining factor of the struggle to reduce CO2 levels. Flying jets, driving a gas car, consuming oil. My individual choices are not the problem. Fundamental energy policy changes are the problem. So I reject the notion that by driving a car or using a tool made from oil indemnifies me from having a stronger stance (or more militant/active stance) on this issue of our generation. Globally, CO2 needs to be reduced. And using a damn paper bag or biking to work isn’t the type of political action that needs to happen to force governments to pass laws that put us on course for what is drastically needed. Capitalism is the problem. Is government the solution? I don’t give a shit whether it is or isn’t. I want something done about it.
