Thoughts about a humane death: A comment I made on someone elses thread. I used to work at a freezing works. It was at Pukeuri, near Oamaru. Admittedly that was a few years ago now, but I doubt much, if anything has changed. I watched the animals being killed on a few occasions. Many died pretty quickly. But MANY died horribly. Sheep were stunned by being sprayed with water, then two metal paddles clamped their body and they were electrocuted. Then they slid down a chute. Some had to be sprayed and electrocuted twice, because the first shock didnt work. Many regained consciousness before they had their throats slit. Those poor sheep had to get put back out in the pens and go through the shock process again. Can you imagine their terror, KNOWING what was in store for them!?! :( I can only presume that because some regained consciousness JUST BEFORE their throats were slit, that some must have also regained consciousness as their throats were slit. Well, logic would suggest that anyway, wouldnt it? Most didnt kick and struggle when they were hung up on the shackles on the chain but some did. They always say thats just nerves. B*llshit. Thats a conscious animal in agony, thrashing and kicking, trying desperately to live as the blood gushes from its throat. I also watched the cattle being killed with the captive bolt gun. Most went down quickly. I saw one that had to have two shots fired into her brain. She was fully conscious, wide eyed, bellowing and thrashing, as a jet of blood spurted from her skull, while the guy reloaded his gun. It took a while to get the 2nd shot in because she was thrashing so much. Then she finally went down. It kind of surprised me when the guy turned round and saw me. He looked really guilty. I dont think he liked his job very much. Im just glad Im Vegan now. All that shit sucks. For the animals, and for the humans that do the work. It will all end though...... when enough people go Vegan.
