Thoughts swirling in my head regarding Orphan Sunday/adoption - TopicsExpress

Thoughts swirling in my head regarding Orphan Sunday/adoption awareness month... James 1:27 True religion is this: that we would care for widows and orphans in their distress, and keep ourselves from being polluted by the world.. This is a great, powerful, life-changing verse. I have loved this verse for years. I have loved it for longer than I was called to Guatemala for my two beautiful boys. The enormity of it is not lost on me, though, when I think of it in light of the whole scope of the Gospel. The Gospel is the original adoption story. It is the story of Jesus coming from Heaven to bring us home. His love, his promise, His life, His hope is wrapped up in the fact that God chose to adopt us as His sons and daughters through the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus. God loved us. We were born to a different father, if you will. The one who rules this world. That was not how it was supposed to be. We are broken, hurt, angry, frustrated, confused, sad, etc because our birthright was stolen from the one who knew we were most and first loved by the Creator Himself. Jesus came to show us that adoption into His family was our only hope. Our way out of here. Our way Home. Phil 3:20 But our citizenship is in Heaven, and we eagerly await a Savior from there, the LORD Jesus Christ.... We wait in hope for the King to come and bring home his daughters and sons--the ones He adopted as well as the natural ones. Adoption of orphans, which is what we are, is not just about rescuing orphans on earth. Its about rescuing orphans on earth as well and ensuring they know that they have a Daddy GOD in Heaven Who loves them greatly and very much wants them to end their journey on earth with Him in heaven. Orphan care is critical in this world. We as a people of God are required to do something for those who have no parents. For some of us, that means adopt. For others, that might mean giving of your time, talent, and/or treasure to ensure the orphans receive food, clothing, education, etc that they would not have without us. I believe adoption is part of Gods plan. His plan for us in every way. He wants to adopt us. He wants us to care for His children. In the end, its about love. Love that leads us home.
