Thr1ve, April 1 - Pit or Pinnacle Making that shot and seeing - TopicsExpress

Thr1ve, April 1 - Pit or Pinnacle Making that shot and seeing my teammates so happy and turning toward me, its the best feeling in the world. Aaron Harrison, freshman for the University of Kentucky, reeled with the final basket that sealed the win - that at many times this season seemed unthinkable - and a trip to this years Final Four in the NCAA Mens Basketball tournament. The best feeling in the world came through teamwork, companions sharing a common goal - and now, a common victory! Even though we lost, we lost as a team. Gonzaga player, Sam Dower, said that last quote in tears - knowing this would be his final college basketball game after Sundays heartbreaking loss. This common goal ended differently than Kentuckys... in season-ending defeat... but amazingly enough, both teams shared the same fundamental element... companionship in victory, companionship in loss. I love the idea of team - whatever happens, they face together as one unit, cohesive and productive... together. Everyone reading this devotional knows there will both be moments when victory is abandoned and hearts are despondent - as well as the welling up of joy at the champions podium! When God’s people are in need, be ready to help them. Always be eager to practice hospitality. Bless those who persecute you. Don’t curse them; pray that God will bless them. Be happy with those who are happy, and weep with those who weep. Live in harmony with each other... Romans 12:13-16 Victory and loss - these are transitional times that cry out for fellow companions to journey together through both the ticker-tape and the tragedy. A blessed person has both, and an even greater blessing is being both for others. A companion is more than mere company - and they dont have to be best friends either. Companions search out the underlying and unspoken needs of Gods family. They anticipate and prepare themselves to match felt necessities with ample grace. They look past words that sting to the heart that yearns to be discovered... and held close. Companions show up for the victory celebration, and they also enter the grief-stricken shadows of death. They are supposed to be there because they bring harmony. They may sing a different tone, but once they are among you, you cant imagine what life would be like without them. Either pit or pinnacle - I call everyone to be that kind of companion today. Be happy... and also weep - just like Jesus does with us in either our March sadness or gladness. The only madness is to find ourselves completely alone. So long as the memory of certain beloved friends lives in my heart, I shall say that life is good. - Helen Keller
