Thrashing voter’s incident : Police arrests three, hunt launched to nab others Geelani unhappy, appeals for peace as Sopore and Handwara people lock horns Srinagar, May 9 : A day after, unidentified youth in North Kashmir’s Baramulla and Sopore towns thrashed scores of people who had voted and had ink mark on their index finger, police on Friday said that three persons in this connection have been arrested while others have been identified and they also will be apprehended in coming days. Deputy Inspector General North Kashmir Range, Ghulam Hasan Bhat told CNS that police have identified the groups who thrashed people for voting in recently concluded Parliament election. “We have identified scores of people and so far three youth have been arrested in this regard. We have started a manhunt to nab the others,” Bhat said adding nobody would be allowed to harass the peace loving people. Meanwhile, the thrashing of voters by unidentified youth have sparked controversy as according to reports most of the people who face fury of the agitated youth in Sopore and Baramulla were the residents of Handwara and Kupwara. Eyewitnesses told CNS that scores of people on Friday morning forced the traders of Sopore and Baramullah to shut their shops in Handwara and Kupwara. Reports said that there were heated exchange of arguments between the traders of Sopore and Baramulla with the people of Handwara and Kupwara in both the towns. “Some people visited my shop and asked me to close the business in Handwara,” a shopkeeper from Sopore owning a shop at Handwara told CNS. Expressing deep anguish over the development, Hurriyat Conference G Chairman in his Youtube message urged people to maintain clam and brotherhood. “There are reports of Sopore traders being asked to shut shops in Handwara and people from Kupwara and Handwara being troubled, this is unpleasant and is against the ethos of Islam and our nation. The voting process is over and we must live like brothers and must not indulge in activities that could bring us on the brink of a civil war.Such acts would help India’s designs in Kashmir and I appeal to all the people especially youth to refrain from such acts and live in peace,” Geelani said.
