Threat of "serious and sustained" industrial action from police staff over 1% pay rise offer Not an option for police officers of course #ajoblikenoother Police staff could be forced into industrial action in a bid to improve a “deeply disappointing” pay offer of one per cent by police employers, a major public sector union has warned. In line with the pay offer made to officers earlier in the year and following the Chancellors pay promise within his Comprehensive Spending Review, police employers made the offer to unions representing police staff following a comprehensive pay claim. The offer is currently being consulted on however; Unison’s National Police Lead Ben Priestley (pictured) warned many members would be deeply disappointed in light of their two year pay freeze. In an interview with PoliceOracle he said: “This is the same offer given to police officers so it is not surprising that we are being offered the same. “It is still deeply disappointing for our members as the majority of staff have not had a pay rise for two years. “We have made it clear to our members that if they vote to reject it the only way to make police employers improve on the offer is if they are prepared to take serious and sustained industrial action. “There has never been a national strike in respect of pay for police staff. It is a very rare circumstance but it is a reflection of the sense of duty and loyalty staff have in the Police Service. “This has put them in a very difficult situation." policeoracle/news/HR%2C+Personnel+and+Staff+Development/2013/Aug/20/Staff-disappointed-over-deficient-pay-offer_69680.html
