Three Bears - Introduction to Patterns and Dressmaking We have arranged 3 dates, to run consecutively - Mondays 2nd June, 23rd June and 7th July, each to run 6.30 to 9.30. £19 per session or £55 for all three dates. To give you an idea of what you can achieve in these sessions, depending on your current skill level - a childs dress may take 1 or 2 sessions, soft toy 1 session, a dress / top / skirt for yourself 2 to 3 sessions. to be realistic, trousers and jackets do take rather longer to make than the time available in these sessions. Ever thought about making your own clothes but need a little bit of guidance? This course is designed to give you an introduction to shop bought patterns and guidance on pattern construction. Throughout this course the following will be covered: * Buying a first Commercial Pattern (Commercial Patterns are sized differently to shop bought clothes, when buying a pattern buy one or two sizes bigger) * Notions (all materials needed for the construction of garments) * Taking body measurements and adjusting patterns to ensure a well-fitting garment * Wearing and design ease in a pattern * Selvedge, grain and bias grain of fabric * Cutting layouts * Seams and seam allowances * Pattern markings and sewing directions * Cutting out, pinning and marking Fabric Week by week the sewing techniques and construction process will be learnt and built upon with the eventual aim of being able to make clothes. A basic understanding of a sewing machine is needed, no previous dressmaking experience is required What to bring to the sessions, Your machine and sewing kit - scissors, pins, tape measure, thread etc Buy your commercial pattern, fabric, zips, poppers, buttons, thread - everything the pattern tells you to Look out for my posts about understanding shop bought patterns, give you a head start before the first session
