Three Years for Kamara and a Trio of ‘Foot Soldiers’ The PUL Team of a Former SWAL Vice President and PUL Press Club Co-Chairman When I Presided over The Elections of The Federation of Liberia Labor Unions in 2004 (Recommended by the PUL), it gave me deeper appreciation and understanding about the demands and responsibilities associated with unions and the predictable patterns upon which they construct leadership and collective trust. I have proudly drawn on these lessons to communicate with my colleagues getting set for a much more convenient and shorter journey to The City of The happy people, Buchanan( Thanks to Madam President who will just not stop working to the extra mile for the nation she knows and people she loves). The mentioning of Her Excellency, President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf here, is in no way disconnected from the subject under discussion, Madam President remains unmatched as the single highest donor to the Press Union and The President with the most distinguished Press Freedom credentials in our County’ history. Let me say here that the current elections is not about lesser evils. This exercise for sure, is not a contest between good or evil. The race in Buchanan ( Grand Bassa County) actually is a contest between Good and Better. For the Position of President, we are directed by the Wisdom reached by the Liberian people in 2005 to entrust the UNION in a pair of safer and better hands; Kamara Abdullai Kamara For The Position of President. I have worked with him. I trust his humility and dedications to those normative values that the PUL must find urgently to inspire its re-discovery during these defining historical moments. Kamara understands The Press Union yesterday and today and his sense of institutional memory and reliability can’t be ignored. I still remember that plaque President by Estella Nelson(Executive Director of LIWOMAC) years ago for his contribution to the women in The Media. While I support Kamara, I am under no illusion to believing that the concerns at the baseline of the pyramid of PUL are invalid, but we must accept that Kamara did not create them but we must use him to correct them. For a long time now, the guys carrying the latex, taking you back to Labor Union lessons, have had little or know presence in big decision making . They must dominate the Press union after Buchanan. The demography and new realities support that. For The Position of Vice President, I have seen this man grow incrementally in capability, adherence to profession values and performance as a journalist. I believe, Comrade Jallah Grayfield will lead the accommodation of the new demography and professional realities the Press Union has attempted to understate in the last few years. Jallah Grayfield For The Position Of VICE- President. In Jallah Grayfied, we will find a mid career professional who has earned his wings and has lived through the questions the reporters want transformed into practical answers in the newsroom. The Secretariat, indeed the nerve center, and as such we must look up to people with the history, and contribution to media advocacy and representation of the largest voting bloc. Comrade Ocatvin Williams is an embodiment of the union’s baseline and has lived through the internal shortcomings and proffered corrections; hence he represents a better choice for an effective Secretariat that is not aloof from the membership. Octavin Williams for Secretary General. For The position of Assistant Secretary General, a more tricky one personally, Daniel Yan Kona’s professional profile with whom I have reported from the ATS, stands up more prominently. Daniel Nyan Kona For Assistant Secretary General Nyan Kona has equally moved up the leader with time and his ascendancy to the PUL top four will give additional impetus to younger reporters to reject the temptation of the fast lane and the ethical consequences associated. I trust that this team can redirect the status core.
