Ladies and gentlemen, I give you 10 hours of walking in Auckland, New Zealand. TA DA!!! I told you so. These things dont happen in New Zealand..even at the heart of Auckland city!! No matter WHAT youre wearing! That is what I said yesterday when discussing the viral catcalling video in NYC. It just doesnt happen in New Zealand mate..maybe we need to rethink this catcalling business and see where its happening and why. This is a good example to note that not everywhere and everyone catcalls...not all men and women harass people..it doesnt happen all the time and it doesnt happen everywhere. I think there are more productive ways to handle these problems then giving it too much credit for what its worth. Your environment is important and where you choose to be makes a huge difference, especially if its bothersome to you. youtube/watch?v=kXdMAXaMicc Remember that video of a woman getting catcalled more than 100 times? The one that took over the entire Internet and launched approximately 87 million think pieces, tweets and blog posts? Well, the New Zealand Herald decided to test out a similar experiment, but in Auckland instead of New York City. The newspaper sent model Nicola Simpson on a walk around the city, with a hidden camera tracking her movements and her interactions with fellow pedestrians. Spoiler alert: the results are drastically different. Sure, a few men do double-takes to check her out, but only two people said anything to her — and one was simply asking for directions.
