Three factors that make children more resilient when faced with trauma: (1) caring relationships (trust, unconditional love, quiet availability, and simple, sustained kindness); (2) high expectations (children who are challenged, encouraged and supported to achieve, eventually become resistant to and resilient from the adversities they face); and (3) understanding and true belief that they can make a difference in this world (give children a “sense of purpose” - let them know that they “matter”).
