Three spectators injured during power plant controlled demolition in Bakersfield, California Lieutenant Scott Tunnicliffe said a 44-year-old man could lose at least one leg after the Pacific Gas and Electric (PG&E) brought the the plant down. The Bakersfield Californian reported that hundreds gathered in the area on Saturday while some had camped out overnight in their vehicles in a nearby car park and brought lawn chairs to watch the eyesore destroyed. Shrapnel also damaged a police cruiser and several private cars. PG&E contractor Demtech used more than 150lbs of explosives to take down the plant, first stripping the structure down so that it would split in half and collapse to the east and west.
