Through an organization called Kusewera, we donated jambourines and kazoos to orphans at Mtendere Village in Malawi, Africa. The children had never seen kazoos before, so when they were being handed out everyone got quiet. But they figured them out pretty quickly. :) Everything at the orphanage is shared so it was pretty special to have something they could call their own. Music is a part of everything in the village. Celebration, worship and even death. Its a part of who they are, so this gift of musical instruments was quite special. Kusewera means to play in Chichewa, the native language of Malawi Africa. The goal of the organization is to empower and educate children in impoverished countries through active and creative play. You can learn more about them at Kusewera.org. Heres a video of the kids singing Home (a capella) by #edwardsharpeandthemagneticzeros. Youll hear and see the jambourines (theyre blue) from the beginning. The kazoos come in after about 30 seconds.
