Throwback Thursday: San Carlos Fire Department! In response to a devastating house fire, San Carlos first formed a volunteer fire department in 1923. Later that year, residents raised $2,500 to buy fire equipment and San Carlos’ first fire house was built at Laurel and Holly Street (now the San Carlos History Museum). In 1927, the department upgraded its fire-fighting arsenal with a new Seagrave Fire Engine, which is still on display at the Museum. Today, the San Carlos Fire Department operates out of two stations: Station 13 at 525 Laurel Street and Station 16 at 1820 Alameda de Las Pulgas. The San Carlos Fire Department became part of Redwood Citys Fire Department in 2013, though the engines retain the San Carlos Fire Department identity. National Fire Prevention Week is October 5-11, 2014! The San Carlos/Redwood City Fire Department will host a FREE Fire Prevention Week Kick-Off Safety Fair on Sunday, October 5, from 11 AM to 3 PM at Fire Station 9 located at 755 Marshall Street in Redwood City. The fair will feature food and fun for the whole family. Fire apparatus will be on display and attendees will learn about safety and preparedness.
