Throwback Thursday...............................................Wrestling 1966 Wrestling at DHHS had long been a intermural sport, in the spring of 1966 it became a revenue school sport. Coach Lou Monica showed all of us the true style, and techniques of competitive wrestling. Ralph Cudar ( center front row ) was our top grappler, winning most of his events. Rebel wrestling would become a dominate program, winning many City and County matches as well as State meets. After Lou Monica stepped down as Coach, Rebel Alumni Dave Mauger ( 1965 ) guided the program for 29 yrs. with 330 victories, a Pinellas County record. Wrestlers are well represented in the DHHSAA Athletic Hall of Fame. Coaches Lou Monica and Dave Mauger, State wrestling champs Dan Bench 1971, Ken Rico 1972 , Gary Schuler 1969 , and David Boyd 1982. Way to go Rebels.
