#ThrowbackThursday Fifty years ago today on October 30, 1964, the #USArmy officially retired the Redstone Ballistic Missile in a formal ceremony. The Redstone, nicknamed “Old Reliable,” was the first missile built by the Army team at Redstone Arsenal. It was the basis for the rocket which launched the free world’s first satellite, Explorer I, into orbit around the earth. A Redstone missile still stands in front of what is now the headquarters for the Program Executive Office for Missiles and Space, Building 5250, at Team Redstone. #tbt
