Thursday 22ND AUGUST 2013 ETERNITY Where will you spend eternity? “My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me. And I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish, neither shall anyone snatch them out of My hand . . .” – Jn.10:27 & 28. “. . . but he who blasphemes against the Holy Spirit never has forgiveness, but eternal condemnation” – Mk.3:29. We are spirit beings living in a body here on earth. The bible tells us that one day we shall have to leave this earthly tent (our body) – when we die. Our spirit-man goes back to God who made us: Then the dust will return to the earth as it was, and the spirit will return to God who gave it. – Eccl.12:7. Now we know that the spirit does not die. When we pass from this earth in death, only the body dies, the spirit returns to the One who gave it – the spirit lives forever (eternity). The question now is where shall we spend our eternity: The bible is very clear on its teachings on our eternal life and we as free mortal beings have a choice to make. Unfortunately there is no middle ground in this matter as some religions would have us believe. The book of Hebrews 9:27 states: And it is appointed for man to die once, but after this the judgment … What is this judgment and what will each one of us hear at the end of his life? It is one of two “. . . Come, you blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world . . . OR “ . . . Depart from Me, you cursed, into the everlasting fire prepared for the devil and his angels . . . And these will go away into everlasting punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.” These are the two pronouncements that are appointed unto man when we all come to the day of judgment and the Lamb’s Book of Life is opened - there is no third and there is certainly no provision for anyone on earth to pray a certain prayer to get anyone out of hell or wherever. Eternity is forever; we owe it to ourselves to decide and choose rightly where we wish to spend it. Moses told the Israelites “that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing, therefore choose life, that both you and your descendants may live.” Jesus said clearly that He did not come into the world to condemn the world but to save it. It is up to us to accept or reject the offer of salvation from Jesus. Remember the lawyer who went to Jesus and asked what he should do to enter into heaven? When Jesus told him what he needed to do, he chose to walk away from Jesus. The bible says Jesus looked at him “and loved him” but did not force him to accept the offer. That man made his choice and that was it. Friend, eternity is forever. Imagine you are in a room where you are most uncomfortable. Things are just not right in the room. The heating’s broken, nothing is right and you just want to get out of there – except that you get to the door and there’s no door-handle to open the door from your side. You find you are trapped and you don’t know how long you’ll be there . . . It’s an unbearable thought. Your decision is final, there’s no going back when the curtain call is made.. The time to make the right decision is NOW. I pray that God will open our hearts and spirit to make the right decision, in Jesus name. One Year Bible Plan - Psalm 119:49-104; 1 Corinthians 4
