The banana yellow suit worn by the Mask was based on a suit that Carreys mother made for him the night of his first performance as a standup comic. There were plans for a sequel, but Carrey declined to reprise his role. Carrey said in interviews that one of the things that attracted him to the part was that Stanley had a love of cartoons, and so does he. Carrey based the part of Stanley on his real life father. The scene where The Mask is being chased by gangsters, pulls out a condom, and says, Sorry wrong pocket, was improvised by Carrey. He had signed the contract before Ace Ventura was released and became a big hit. For his next film, Dumb and Dumber, Carrey made $7 million.
