Thursday Evening, September 11, 2014 I feel like we have to recover the mystical because it appears like it has become “subjugated knowledge” (Foucault), silenced by the dominant secular culture. In our mysticism/activism, where are the desert places we can go to rest awhile? (Mk 6:31) In the midst of a tweeting, texting, posting and browsing culture, how do we recover the languages of silence? We have a long tradition of “interiority” in the Jesus tradition. We know we do. At the same time, we also know that we are only touching the hem of a much bigger reality:The Lotus with a thousand petals. Walking the Way of the Mystic requires a love for this world that God so loves. And in this conversation, our kindred is not just other humans but all of God’s good creation. All are part of God’s “Beloved Community”. It is how we “find God in all things and all things in God.” (Ignatius) It is how we find gates of heaven everywhere (Merton). .
