Thursday, July 31, 2014 Today is the Feast of St. Ignatius of Loyola. Gospel: Mt 13: 47-53 The Parable of the Dragnet. The kingdom of heaven is like a net thrown into the sea, which collects fish of every kind.... To put what is good into buckets. What is bad they throw away. Reflection: The daily event in the life of fishermen and fish vendors pictures the final judgement of God. It will be a time of separation: the just one will be ushered into Gods kingdom while the evil ones will be thrown outside where they will wail and gnash their teeth. But until such time comes--which only God knows when--the disciples of the Lord will catch all kinds of fish in their nets. The net is the Church, a home to saints and sinners alike, all struggling to be perfect as the heavenly Father is perfect, precisely to be considered clean when judgement comes. Amen.
