Thursday, May 8th, at The Local 662 (662 Central Avenue | St. Pete 33701) Independent small concert hall and creative event space The Local 662 will be hosting one of the official Purple Hatters Ball Pre-Parties featuring live entertainment from Rising Appalachia, ArtOfficial, Oak Hay, and Jun. The Purple Hatter’s Ball Music & Arts Festival – an annual event hosted at the historic and pictureque Spirit of the Suwannee Music Park – has teamed up with Rising Appalachia to throw a Pre-Party leading up to the weekend long festival celebrating the life of Rachel Morningstar Hoffman; to take place May 9th-11th. The Pre-Party will feature a headlining performance from Rising Appalachia, the up-and-coming global roots music project of sisters Leah Song and Chloe Smith. Featuring strong poetic vocals and soulful harmonies over a mixture of Appalachian Revival instrumentation, world percussion, and electronic beat production, Rising Appalachia is quickly becoming one of the most unique and mesmerizing acts to route both domestically and internationally, making the festival circuit a mainstay of their tour schedule. The group has self-produced 5 albums to date, one full-length documentary DVD, and a new collaborate release with organic/EDM producer David Block a.k.a. The Human Experience. Opening up the performance are the Miami-based horn-heavy live Hip Hop outfit ArtOfficial, Bluegrass side-project Oak Hay of Between Bluffs frontman Jerrod Simpson, and local singer/songwriter Jun.
