Thursday Update: I woke up this morning, went out into the cool, redwood and earth-smelling morning air; stood in the sunshine and thought to myself “What a beautiful summer morning!” And then I remembered that it’s January. I’m thinking that it will be very nice to start getting some rain any time now. Our rainy season (it’s difficult to call it winter -- having lived in places where there actually IS a winter) normally gets seriously underway sometime in November and doesn’t let up much until it’s dumped somewhere between 30 and 60 inches, usually around the end of May. I think that this year we’ve had about a quarter of an inch, so far. I AM OFFICIALLY READY FOR THE RAIN!!!!! The firewood is stacked and covered. My ski-jump of a driveway has the redwood droppings blown off of it so that it is traversable (OK. I really should do this again on Saturday, but it WAS blown off). The plants in the garden are holding a demonstration, protesting the lack of rain. And the redwoods, well the redwoods, being creatures designed to endure thousands of years of pretty much whatever the natural environment throws at them, are scratching their figurative chins wondering what the hell is up. I AM OFFICIALLY READY FOR THE RAIN!!!! OKAY? ;-) “Eulogy for The Evil White Male” is coming along well and looks like it will be the posting for Saturday. Those of you who read the Tuesday update know the inspiration behind this piece. I’ve been driving, driving, driving this week, so Fridays posting will probably be a re-run. I’ll try and pick one that you’ll find engaging.
