Since I havent seen the Posies since shortly after Dear 23 was released (24 years ago, and opening for The Replacements!) and I am finally set to see them (well, acoustic) at the Triple Door on Saturday, I started walking down memory lane. One memory is this: in the fall of 1990 I was a college dropout biding my time at Shoreline CC. Between classes I would go to a little overhang to have a smoke and there was always this little kid there, also smoking. I thought he was a pretentious art fag, and I am sure he thought the same of me, nonetheless we bonded over four things: cigarettes, theater, Leonard Cohen, and... The Posies. He told me one day that his brother was in the Posies, and for whatever reason I didnt believe him. It took the liner notes from Dear 23 and his appearance in a subsequent video for me to believe him. And, thusly, is how I met Nathan Auer.
