Thursday song of the day: Suck by Cakelike. Cakelike was formed - TopicsExpress

Thursday song of the day: Suck by Cakelike. Cakelike was formed in 1993 by Kerri Kenney, Nina Hellman, and Jodi Seifert. None had ever played before, but they learned quickly. This seems to be one of those cases where lack of experience leads to doing things in unconventional ways with good results. They released their first album Delicious in 1994, and put out two other albums before breaking up in 1999. In general, their music got good reviews, but not much commercial success. Lead singer/bassist Kerri Kenney is more well known for her work as an actress/comedian, appearing in the MTV sketch comedy show The State, and Comedy Central shoes Viva Variety and Reno 911. I hadnt head of them until I attended the Indie Rock Flea Market in Alexandria, Virginia in 1995. It was a fun event, with lots of indie record labels, local record stores, artists, zine publishers, etc. setting up shop in a former Sears parking lot. Several bands played the event, and one of them was Cakelike. They were really good, and its a bit sad that they were generally overlooked by the mainstream. Heres the song Suck from their debut album, as well as a video that they made of the song. youtube/watch?v=2nbA-Bd7vdA youtube/watch?v=hLvPtu7pvwU Tomorrow: Id stop my dreaming.
