Thursday we will say goodbye to the most amazing man who loved God, family, church and his country. Below is the obituary that my daughter Leslie wrote for my father in love along with information on visitation and the services celebrating his life. Harley Elon Suggs, age 93 of Spring, TX, slipped the bonds of earth and went home to be with his Savior on June 24, 2013. Born November 4, 1919 in Scotland, AR he was an air traffic controller, home builder and C-47 pilot in the 302nd Troop Carrier Squad, dropping D-Day paratroopers on Normandy as part of the Army Air Corps. He is survived by his devoted wife of 67 years Janice Suggs, sons & daughters-in-law Stan & Linda Suggs of Carmine, TX and Joe & Jackie Suggs of Spring, TX, granddaughters Stacie Engeling of Austin, TX, Leslie Suggs of Houston, TX and Kelly Moore of Spring, TX, sister Wanda Hicks of Wichita, KS, cousins, nieces & nephews. A founding member of Oak Ridge Baptist Church in Spring, TX, he was a trustee, ordained deacon for more than 50 years, Sunday School Director and was honored with the title Deacon Emeritus. Family will receive friends from 5 to 8 P.M. Wednesday at Metcalf Funeral Home, 1801 E White Oak Terrace, Conroe, TX. A celebration of life will be held at 10 A.M. Thursday, June 27, 2013 at Oak Ridge Baptist Church, 500 E Oak Hill Dr, Spring TX. A humble man, beloved by all, Harley’s greatest legacy was his faith. Well done, good and faithful servant.
