Tickets are still available online and in person! Were happy to announce our official photographer for SQD 2014 will be Hawa Arsala! Hawa is a UC Berkeley graduate and the co-founder of Browntourage, an arts and culture website dedicated to fostering community among (queer) people of color in music, fashion, arts and entertainment. She first gained prominence in the Bay Area’s underground party circuit as an event photographer documenting the vivid self-expression of the nightlife scene, which led her to form relationships with the dancers, rappers and performance artists who frequently appear as the subjects of her photographs. She is the co-founder and curator of Konversation, an online art gallery that puts visual art, poetry and essays from artists all over the world in dialogue with one another. She recently was a featured scholar at the annual Islamophobia Conference at UC Berkeley hosted at the Boalt School of Law. She brings her diverse experience, from club culture to academia, to navigate the hybridized, multicultural spaces in today’s digitized world.
