Tilly is a deaf 1 ½ year old female Blue Heeler. Tilly was rescued from an abusive home when she was one year old. From what we can tell, she was kept in a crate the majority of the time and was not socialized with people or other animals. When she arrived at our shelter, she was very frightened, anxious and aggressive. She has been in a foster home for the past five months where she is living with a Siberian Husky, a Black Lab mix and a cat. Tilly has discovered that she loves other dogs and enjoys cats. She goes to the dog park multiple times a week and is slowly learning to appreciate the people that bring the four-legged playmates that she so dearly loves. Tilly has worked with a certified trainer learning sign language. Currently she knows sit, down, down-stay, sit-stay, and come. She is learning tap, roll over, and heel. She is slowly, but surely, becoming accustomed to a gentle leader. Tilly has a mischievous personality and is a clever and fun little girl. She loves to chase and be chased by other dogs. She can be very affectionate and once she has developed a relationship with a person she is always excited to see them. Everyone that takes the time to get to know Tilly falls in love with her. Tilly requires an owner who is patient and willing to continue her training - someone who is an experienced animal owner and understands the breed characteristics of a herding dog. Tilly has come a long way with her confidence, however, without the right owner, she could easily revert back to being fearful and feeling threatened. Although Tilly continues to gain confidence as a result of her training, fear biting has been an issue so she should not be placed in a home with young children. Additionally, Tilly requires a fenced-in yard because she likes to chase cars, bicycles or anything fast paced. Tilly is spayed, microchipped and up-to-date on all vaccinations. Tilly is heartworm negative and on heartworm preventative as well as flea, tick and intestinal parasite preventative.
