It is very important for me to know your views, and I appreciate you taking the time to share them. As a member of the Congressional Diabetes Caucus, I understand the importance of the Special Diabetes Program (SDP), which is promoting innovation in diabetes research and prevention, and I am working to promote diabetes awareness among my colleagues in the U.S. House of Representatives. I support the SDP, and, on September 20, 2013, I agreed to sign onto a letter to Speaker of the House John Boehner (R-OH) and Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), urging them to support the SDP. As you may know, H.R. 962, the Medicare Diabetes Prevention Act, was introduced by Rep. Susan Davis (D-CA) on March 5, 2013, and, if enacted, would provide coverage of the diabetes prevention program services to eligible individuals. H.R. 962 was referred to the House Committee on Energy and Commerce, where it currently awaits further actions. Rest assured, should H.R. 962 come before the House Floor for a vote I will keep your concerns in mind. With more than 26 million Americans combating diabetes, medical advances made as a result of SDP funding are critical to the health and future of our nation. I believe that U.S. scientific research is second-to-none, and I understand the importance of investing in diabetes research and prevention. I will continue to seek opportunities to promote worthwhile programs, and, as I do, I will keep your thoughts in mind. Again, thank you for contacting me. It is an honor to represent Arkansass Second Congressional District, and your input allows me to do my best in representing the District. Please do not hesitate to contact me at my Little Rock office at (501) 324-5941, and my Washington, D.C. office at (202) 225-2506.
