Time for Beany was a childrens TV show locally produced & aired in Los Angeles starting in 1949 and nationally (via kinescope) on the improvised Paramount Television Network from 1950 to 1955. It was created by Bob Clampett. who, from 1931 to 1946, animated & directed Warner Bros. cartoons & designed Porky Pig and Tweety. Clampett later reused the core characters of Time for Beany in his animated Beany and Cecil TV series. Time for Beany won three Emmy Awards for best childrens show. Albert Einstein was a fan of the show. On one occasion, the physicist interrupted a high-level conference by announcing, You will have to excuse me, gentlemen. Its time for Beany. Musician and composer Frank Zappa was also a fan. The principal voice actors and puppeteers in Time for Beany were Daws Butler (Beany and Captain Huffenpuff) and Stan Freberg (Cecil and Dishonest John). Butler later did the voices for several Hanna-Barbera cartoon characters, including Yogi Bear, Quick Draw McGraw, Snagglepuss, Huckleberry Hound, Elroy Jetson, Peter Potamus, Wally Gator, Augie Doggie, & many others. Freberg later did the voices of some Warner Bros. cartoon characters, including Junyer Bear, Pete Puma, Bertie the mouse (of Hubie & Bertie), & Tosh (of Mac and Tosh, the Goofy Gophers). Freberg also did all the voices (Narrator, Big Bad Wolf, the Three Little Pigs) in the Warner Bros. short The Three Little Bops. After Butler and Freberg left Time for Beany in 1952 or 1953, Jim MacGeorge and Irv Shoemaker handled the voice work and puppeting duties.
