Time for a little rant, I normally dont do this on facebook but I think now is a time to say this. We have been getting an unusually large number of critical post lately on facebook being posted on different pages. Normally I just let these things just slide but too many and people start to believe. To those people who want to criticize us I have 3 things to say: 1) When you start your own rescue and can do it better then we are, show me the way and mentor me, I will follow your directions. 2) show us the money because the reason we cant do it the way you think we should be doing is because we cant afford to do it the way you think we should be. If we have your money we will do it your way. 3) Volunteer and come out and show us how it should be done, we will follow your example. We are one of the few rescues in Pinal county that actually has a kennel license and is inspected regularly by Pinal County Animal Control. The majority of rescue do not have a kennel license and once a dog leaves the pound there is no more oversight on the treatment and care of that dog. We operate very closely with the various animal control facilities we get our rescue from. They know us and trust us and that is why we get some of their most difficult dogs, dogs with behavioral issues, medical issues and because they know us and know we will take the hard cases they will throw us a bone and give us the easy ones as well. It is the easy ones that pay the bills for the harder ones. We spay and neuter ever dog that is old enough to be fixed BEFORE we even advertise them. It is common practice at the pound and many rescue to not fix a dog until it is adopted. The adoption fee pays for the surgery and then they can go home afterwards. We put the money up front and the dogs are fixed before they are put up for adoption and that is why a dog can go home the same day. We follow the advice of our vet and dont fix puppies under 16 weeks but we collect a spay/neuter deposit which cover the cost of the surgery and is refunded after they are fixed. We have to keep track of all those puppies and report all of that back to animal control and they insure that they are fixed. It is exactly the same process animal control uses except our deposit is a higher amount! Animal control knows this is how we operate because I discussed this policy with them before we started taking puppies that are younger then 16 weeks. We operate with outdoor kennels. I dont care if a dog wants to play in it play pool and they get the water dirty, anything they can do to keep cool in this Arizona weather, but every kennel has a separate bucket as well which has clean water. If they want to dig in the dirt to keep cool, let them dig! I have looked into different options for kennels and wish I could have a concert pad for each one but the cost is astronomical. I have discussed with with the county planning and zoning department and just to get the approval to get the permit would require about $10K in environmental studies and reviews, even before we could apply for the permits. The permits would only be approved if they designed by an engineering firm and then we can start looking at the actual building costs. So needless to say we are going to be operating with permeable surface kennels for a while, unless somebody wants to put their money where their mouths are! Finally, dont post questions about a dog to the post on Facebook. I dont have the time to sit down and follow Facebook all day long and chase down posts and questions from post I make days ago. I actually have 2 other people who monitor this page and they are the ones that keep on telling everybody to e-mail me at [email protected]. So if you dont get an answer to your question on a post that is why, you didnt e-mail me! I will answer all your questions as soon as you e-mail me! [email protected]
