Time to reacquaint you with some of the characters and situations in The Final Inning, Days of Darkness. In the previous book, Final Inning, First Strike, a close encounter stirred feeling between Staff Sergeant Adams and Commander Marsha Malan. Now, those feeling flourish... The double meaning coming from Adams’ lips did not escape Malan. The thought disarmed her a bit but made her understand that he knew all her indignation and denial was just that. His statement confirmed her knowing he also had interest in her. As Adams continued looking into Malan’s eyes, they froze for a moment, just as they had in the Medical Building. Unlike the eye contact made before their momentary brushing of the lips, and prior to Adams entering Big Blue, searching for and finally killing the traitor Staff Sergeant Puckett, she now wanted to fully plant her lips on his full one and have him envelop her with his strong arms. With this moment of looking into the softness of his eyes, she desired his safety, his passion. Looking deeply into those pools she saw the way he felt for her. What she saw was no mistake. It was not her imagination. The fondness and affection glinting from the dark brown gave her a secure feeling, one of knowing when times got hard she had a shoulder to cling to. To her, the comforting feeling was wonderful. Malan took another deep breath and said, “Well, I guess we should be a bit more cordial and a lot less friendly out in the open like this.” amazon/-/e/B00GC1HIN8
