Time under tension is a commonly used term in the strength and conditioning and bodybuilding fields. In short, it refers to how long the muscle is under strain during a set. Duration of stimulus and tension are key factors in determining muscle growth. By putting the muscle under longer bouts of strain, you can cause extensive muscle breakdown leading to sleeve-busting muscles. Time your sets so they last between 30 and 40 seconds for optimum muscle growth. This length of time ensures the muscles are receiving enough of a stimulus to spur changes in muscle size. For best results spend slightly more time on the eccentric portion, minimise pause time at the easiest point in the movement, focus on strict form and maintain a high enough intensity (weight) to ensure you illicit best muscular response. Super setting between 2 exercises with no rest (starting with the compound movement first and finishing with isolation) as seen here with Clare is another overload technique used to bust up those biceps even further. Time under tension has a great response for women wanting to lose weight and tone up too, so get lifting! #atfwollongong #anytimefitness #anytimefitnessillawarra #fitness #lifestyle #health #strength #fitfam #instafit #bustingbiceps #partypump #coachclare
