Timing John 8:12-20 “12 Later, Jesus talked to the people again, saying, ‘I am the light of the world. The person who follows Me will never live in darkness but will have the light that gives life.’ 13 The Pharisees said to Jesus, ‘When you talk about yourself, you are the only one to say these things are true. We cannot accept what you say.’ 14 Jesus answered, ‘Yes, I am saying these things about Myself, but they are true. I know where I came from and where I am going. But you don’t know where I came from or where I am going. 15 You judge by human standards. I am not judging anyone. 16 But when I do judge, I judge truthfully, because I am not alone. The Father who sent Me is with Me. 17 Your own law says that when two witnesses say the same thing, you must accept what they say. 18 I am one of the witnesses who speaks about Myself, and the Father who sent Me is the other witness.’19 They asked, ‘Where is Your Father?’ Jesus answered, You don’t know Me or My Father. If you knew Me, you would know My Father, too.’ 20 Jesus said these things while He was teaching in the Temple, near where the money is kept. But no one arrested Him, because the right time for Him had not yet come.” Do you ever think about timing? How about God’s timing? Whoever said Timing is everything was right on point. Take the dating world. Gal in the right place, at the right time to meet a guy who is also there at the right time. The world may call it Fate or Coincidence, even Kizmit. Truthfully, I dont believe in Coincidence, I have faith in Gods timing. Encounters such as these are proof God cares about the smallest details in our lives and is hoping the two Star crossed lovers will see His handwriting or the mind and heart behind the encounter. A receiver in football runs a timing route. If he gets to the predetermined place at the predetermined time, it can be a thing of beauty; poetry even. When they dont, it can be a spectacular failure. No wonder they call it a LOVE for the game, the two arent that different. Our reading is all about timing, God’s perfect timing. If understood properly, God’s timing can grant a peace few things can. In our reading, the Pharisees are once more stirred up, to the point of wanting blood (v19), by Jesus who is making some of the clearest statements of His deity in all the bible. (v28,58) Have you ever wondered how Jesus would simply walk away from these fuming Pharisees plans and schemes? Our reading tells us as clear as day Because the RIGHT TIME for Him had not yet come (v 20 NCV). God’s perfect timing was in effect. For us, His followers, our problem is an inability or a lack of desire to wait on Him and His timing. It’s that, that causes some of the most spectacular failings in our lives. We are more than capable of Kicking a door open like a 3rd rate cop show, however, what’s waiting behind it is never quite the same as the best of God’s perfect will for us, would have had, if we would have let Him open it. It will always fall short. Yet even that was a Romans 8:28 moment, a demonstration of His permissive will. It is the Lordship of Christ that lets us see that every aspect, good or what we see as bad, are in fact working for our best, by God’s hand. A wise man once told me, God keeps His best for those who wait His test. We can live at peace knowing the master is orchestrating His perfect timing in our lives. We can rest knowing If God has brought us to it, He will see us through it. Let’s Pray: Father, thank You for Your timing. It is always perfect and always exactly what we need. Often we want to overstep our boundaries and try to do Your job. We must know that You know what is best in all circumstances and we must trust You and Your plan for us and those around us. You have approved all that has happened and will happen in our lives. We know it is for our own good but more importantly to Your glory that we embrace You and Your plan. Help us to trust You even when times are tough or we are unsure of what You are doing. No matter what, You are our Father and our Creator and You always know what is best. In Jesus name, Amen.
