Tin Pan Alley is turning five today! Happy birthday, Old Girl! I think this is a good time for everyone to post a status update saying why theyre grateful Tin Pan exists. For example, if it wasnt for Tin Pan, I wouldnt have stayed in Tainan to work there after I came for what was intended to be a brief visit with my old friend Rock Starkey three years ago, which means I never would have met Chad Cote! Oh... and also my wife.... and also dozens of other folks who have become dear friends. Five years ago, Rock Starkey had a dream to take a small patch of dirt beside the railroad tracks and turn it into a place where a community could gather to share good times and good pizzas. I personally witnessed a good share of the blood, sweat, tears, and Boddingtons that went into building Tin Pan into more than just a bar, but an institution to the people of Tainan and around Taiwan. Tin Pan put Tainan on the map. How many great international bands and DJs have come to Tainan ONLY because Tin Pan exists? To celebrate, Ill be jumping back behind the bar tonight, and, just as on the first night I ever worked at Tin Pan, December 31, 2011, Thomas Ashley Bartz will be spinning the tunes. Tin Pan has given us all so many great memories, lets make another one tonight.
