Tiny tots weave singing magic at The British School, Chandigarh’s Musical Rhymes Day November 18, 2013 09:04 PM CHANDIGARH, 18.11.13-The Foundation Year (FY) students of The British School, Chandigarh celebrated a Musical Rhymes Day today. The tiny tots stole everyone’s hearts with their cute rendition of rhymes and songs. The smiles on the little ones faces were infectious. The children also used actions to express the rhymes in a better way. The pre-primary students enjoyed more as the rhymes had been set to music played out on the piano. Nipun Cheema, a musician trained in piano performance and who has studied Jazz Piano at Conservatoire de Nantes , France was on the Piano and made the Rhyme session all the more enjoyable. The fun and excitement was evident when children clapped, stamped their feet and nodded with enthusiasm. Ms. Mona Shri Sethi, Principal of The British School, Chandigarh presided over the function. She said that “It’s known that music is a very good teacher as it is an effective sensory tool and anything gained through music remains with a student for a life time. We at The British School, Chandigarh lay a lot of emphasis on oral communication with rhymes accompanied by music. The Piano is a very apt instrument and provides the right tunes for strengthening ‘Rhyme learning’ among smaller children.” Some of the Rhymes that reverberated at the session were ‘Wheels of the Bus…’, ‘Where is Thumb kin…’, ‘Five Red Balloons’ etc. As many as 150 FY students participated in the event. Under the School’s curriculum, Rhymes and Songs are used to increase the students’ vocabulary in a very playful and interesting way. This method forms a strong edifice to build kids vocabulary, as they grow up.
