Tioga County gave us the Bucktails-these are Pennsylvanias finest soldiers, and they came out of this soil. Perhaps, something more important than these soldiers was grown in the soil of Tioga County, and that was loyalty to the cause. If you dont know it, Tioga County was the most loyal County in the State of PA to Abraham Lincoln when he ran for reelection. There was only one way the Union could have lost the Civil War, and that would have been if Lincoln had not been reelected in November of 1864. The County in the entire State of Pennsylvania which was most loyal to Abraham Lincoln in that election was the one Im standing on. Repeating, there are two ways this County provided victory to the United States of America and the suppression of the Rebellion. -The toughest soldiers from the State of Pennsylvania (and arguably in the entire Union) and also -The loyalty to the Country and the President to sustain the War to its conclusion Might I add, the videographer crouching before me carries the surname Gleason? He is descended from a Gleason from Osceola Township in Tioga County who gave his life on July 1st at Gettysburg. This type of sacrifice was made by Tioga County during one of this Countrys greatest crises, and combined with patriotic loyalty, shows how God keeps this country safe.
