Tip for today:- Make your own Australia Day Card Making a card like this involves first making a template from stiff cardboard or plastic that you can centre on the card you are going to make. Cut out the shape, in this case the outline map of Australia, and then with a very sharp soft pencil e.g. 2B carefully trace around your shape. If any marks are left they will be easy to rub out with a soft rubber. An HB or hard pencil will leave marks so that is why you don’t want to use that. It’s then time to take your scalpel or craft knife and slowly carefully cut out the shape turning the piece of card slowly as you go. The rest is easy. Find a suitable picture, or photo, to paste behind. Take care to place this to its best advantage and glue it in place. Take a piece of same coloured (or if you prefer, a contrasting colour) and cut slightly smaller than the size of the entire inside of the card. Make the half way fold first then paste the entire surface onto the card smoothing with a rag or a roller. Decorate the outside. Here I used a gold pen to run a highlight around the shape of Australia’s mainland and Tasmania, then made a similar border around the front of the card. A few judiciously placed faux crystals enhance the design and that’s it finished. You can write or stamp a message inside if you like. Or you could just buy one!
